This tour combines history, panoramic views, and a unique walk along the route of a former railway line. We explore the medieval Kaštel Kožljak — a fortress positioned strategically above Čepićko polje, offering impressive views of the Kvarner and the slopes of Učka. The climb to the castle follows a forest and rocky trail with a moderate incline. It's not technically difficult, but there are a few steeper sections that give it a real hiking feel. At the top, we take time for a break, photos, and stories about the rich past of this area — from noble families to the strategic importance of the fortress itself.
After the historical part of the tour, we move on to the so-called "Pijana pruga" (Drunken Railway) — a former railway route known for its curves and unique construction. This section is easy and pleasant to walk, with no major climbs, making it perfect for a relaxed walk through nature.
We follow parts of the old railway infrastructure through greenery and quiet surroundings while hearing interesting stories about Istria's railway history.
This tour is a perfect mix of active time in nature and cultural exploration — dynamic, yet accessible to a wide range of visitors.
Safety Note: The climb to the castle includes rocky and occasionally steeper terrain. Proper footwear is required and participants should follow the guide's instructions. The tour may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and the group's abilities.
